Rel-Being workshop at IUL, Baalbeck
Music and music practices researcher Lorenzo Brusci and sociologist and middle east expert Lorenzo Trombetta held a workshop on urban storytelling and the active practice of listening to and investigating the city, the place, our places, collecting and combining past and present, contributing to new forms of participatory urban and social design.
They aim at designing and implementing storytelling campaigns led by students in order to gather a significant amount of stories related to a specific urban area under design or development.
The 1 day workshop has been designed in collaboration with landscape architect Ali Shokor, professor at the Faculty of Science and Arts.
The workshop had been for one day at IUL Bekka campus and aimed to represent the “city life in Ras El Ain ” Baalbeck through oral stories led by students and directed by the department of science and art instructors using their cameras mobile phone and doing some interviews with the park’s users to represent a storytelling related to the present and the past .The event summary could offer an ideal vision to build the ideal future-scape.
The workshop agenda has been:
a) Introducing the storytelling overall methodology and necessary technology equipment: an introduction to the rel-being methodology and the practical recording and overall campaigning tools.
b) Introducing a practical field-action: exploring the historical, urban and sociological context.
c) Defining field action groups and the indexing methodologies.
d) How to take advantage in landscape and urban design practices of complex data emerged from storytelling campaigns.
e) Defining different possibilities to edit, experience and share the results of the storytelling campaign, from audio-video documentaries, immersive media installations and thick mapping.
