Amelie CONRAD | Cultural scientist and Curator

Amelie Conrad is a cultural scientist and curator from Berlin, working primarily in Germany, Italy, and Greece. Her career and academic pursuits are defined by a commitment to interdisciplinarity in both art production and mediation. Conrad works as a curator at VgK–Art in Context, a Berlin-based art association that aligns closely with her cultural initiatives.

From 2012 to 2019, Conrad co-founded and co-curated PHYSIS A European Project for Interdisciplinary Art and Conceptual Ideation launched in 2012 as a pilot project of the International Youth and Autumn Academy Initiative in Assisi. PHYSIS was showcased internationally through exhibition cycles, lectures, and symposiums in collaboration with institutions such as the Hellenic Cultural Foundation Berlin, the Japanese-German Cultural Center Berlin, Fondazione Sant’Elia in Palermo, Goethe-Institut Athens, Goethe-Zentrum Palermo, Kunsthalle of the European Art Academy Trier, Schwarz Foundation Samos, Italian Culture Insitute Berlin among others.

In 2022, Conrad was part of the team of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo, where she coordinated the German-Italian Literary Translation Prize. The previous year, she contributed as a production assistant to Lene Markusen’s film Revolutionary Woman, a project recognized with the Villa Romana Prize. During this time, she also co-coordinated the Scuola Popolare II and various presentations of the Villa Romana fellows, as well as international guest artists.

Among her recent collaborations, Conrad has worked with cultural mediation institutions across Berlin, focusing on art projects with a strong social component. In this context, she founded and co-curated ECHOES, a nine-month socially engaging series of encounters and workshops for children and young adults. ECHOES brought together cultural practitioners, scientists, artisans, and artists to inspire youth to critically engage with issues related to environmental protection, sustainability, society, and technology.
This year she initiated and curated the eight-day bilateral symposium PHYSIS On Now and Then inviting Institutions such as Fondazione Orestiadi Gibellina, Museo Internazionale delle Marionette Palermo, In Ruins Art and Archeology, Sumac Space, MA Spacial Strategies (Art Academy Weißensee) and Periferca.
