Mauro Baracco | PhD in Architecture |Associate Professor of Architecture

Mauro Baracco, PhD, architect, is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Design of RMIT University. Formerly the Deputy Dean of Landscape Architecture (2013-2015), International (2016-2017) and member of the School executive committee (2013-2017), Mauro is a member of d___Lab-Centre of Design Practice Research. Born and educated in Italy, he practiced in Milan and Cuneo, and taught at Turin Polytechnic and Milan European Institute of Design. In Melbourne since 1996, he is a director of Baracco + Wright Architects. In 2018 he was one of the Creative Directors appointed by AIA-Australian Institute of Architects for the exhibition Repair, Australian Pavilion, 16th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale 2018. Extending from the Repair exhibition and still in collaboration with Louise Wright and Linda Tegg, Mauro has been invited to participate with an installation titled “Grassland Suspended” at the 2019 Milan Triennale Broken Nature international exhibition. Mauro’s projects and writings have been widely published in books (Routledge, Actar, URO among others) and journals (Domus, Abitare, Casabella, A+U, Architecture Australia among others), exhibited and awarded nationally and internationally. Mauro’s research is focused on urban resilience through cross-programming and integration of open and built space among other architectural operative strategies. His work, specifically in relation to Baracco+Wright’s practice, has been described as “quietly radical”.
