Jason Ho | Urbanist | PhD in Architecture | Adjunct Prof. RMIT (AU)

Curator, urbanist, and educator, He is the initiator of Mapping Workshop, China and a Founding Director of Urban Informality Lab, Melbourne (www.urbaninformalitylab.org). Jason has taught and practiced at a large number of universities and design firms across the globe. He serves on Expert Advisory Committees of several international organizations including Asia Architecture and Urbanism Alliance and China’s Landscape Design Industry Associations. He also serves as an international judge for World Landscape Architecture Awards, China’s Idea-King Landscape Design Awards and Asian Design Awards. Jason is currently the international editor of Landscape Architecture China. He received a PhD of Architecture from RMIT University, in which his creative design research focused on the mapping of lived experiences of street vendors around boundary walls in China. His mapping work closely observes the urban poor living on the margins and explores the relationship between design and humanity. On March 2015, Jason initiated a movement called “Mapping for Humanity” in China. Since then, this movement has been promoted through different talks and mapping workshops. Over the past two years, Jason has delivered more than a hundred speeches and conducted twenty-eight mapping workshops at different architectural schools across China, in such a way to help the students rebuild empathy with underprivileged communities. Jason also holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from RMIT University, where he explored the concept of Landscape Urbanism through the understanding of supermarket organization. His work “Where is Milk?” was exhibited at the 2008 Shanghai Biennale. Jason is currently teaching at the School of Architecture of South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China.
